Dr. Mara Lee Grayson is a writer, professor, educational researcher, and critical whiteness and antiracism consultant originally from Brooklyn, New York. 

She is the author of the books Teaching Racial Literacy: Reflective Practices for Critical Writing (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018), Race Talk in the Age of the Trigger Warning: Recognizing and Challenging Classroom Cultures of Silence (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020), and Antisemitism and the White Supremacist Imaginary: Conflations and Contradictions in Composition and Rhetoric (Peter Lang, 2023). Her research and scholarship have also appeared in College Composition and Communication, English Education, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, Rhetoric of Health and Medicine, Writing Program Administration, Writing on the Edge, St. John’s University Humanities Review, and The Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning, among other publications. Her poetry has appeared in Nimrod, Poetry Northwest, Pedestal, Tampa Review, and other journals, and has been nominated for the Best of the Net and twice for the Pushcart Prize.

Mara Lee holds a PhD in English Education from Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the City College of New York. She is an Associate Professor of English and Faculty Coordinator of General Education Assessment at California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in composition, writing instruction, and race rhetorics, and previously directed the Writing Center. She chairs the CCCC/NCTE Jewish Caucus and has worked with the Urban Scholars, Poetry Outreach, and Teaching Fellows organizations, as well as the professional organizations NCTE, CCCC, TYCA, and NJCEA.

She is available as a critical whiteness and antiracism consultant for companies, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions in the Southern California area and across the United States.
